Hello Everyone! On October 13th we held our sod-turning ceremony with construction well underway in the background. As you can see in the picture the piles have been constructed and now they are working on the basement and elevator shaft for the building. Everyday something new will be happening at our construction site so feel free to drive by for a sneak peak!
And now that construction is underway our attention turns back toward our capital campaign as we try to meet our fundraising goals over the course of this next year (how long it will take to construct this building). Our online goal of $250,000 has reached the 50% mark and we are hoping that all those good Samaritans out there will help us reach our online goal!
The final cost of the project is 7 million dollars. With grants and donations we have raised around 40% of the total construction costs. Although our business plan supports a mortgage payment our hope is that we can reduce that mortgage significantly before our first mortgage payment needs to be made!
There is still space inside the building that could be developed for a potential large gift sponsor, such as our soup kitchen, clothing store, or daycare. We also have a couple donor walls where we will be providing legacy recognition to every single person who has donated to this project.
Remember, less than 10% of our total budget comes from the government through a wage grant offered to our licensed daycare. The rest comes from a combination of rental revenue, grants, foundations and each of you! Our emergency shelter is free – the only free shelter in the province! We don’t charge our guests and we receive no government funding for our shelter. We can do this because of your generosity. Thank you!
If you can help (remember you can get a tax receipt for your donation!) then please donate through this webpage or through our main website at www.shrmsk.com! We are making every nickel count!
